Welcome to the Local Public Health Agency Training webpage! Here you will find a variety of resources to meet your unique learning needs.
The Learning Pathways Program currently includes a customized learning plan on CO TRAIN Learning Management System and will eventually include mentorship opportunities, communities of practice, extensive resources and much more!
Welcome to the Executive Director Learning Pathways home! This initiative is a response to requests to consolidate and organize workforce development training for Colorado’s LPHA staff through the Office of Public Health Practice, Planning, and Local Partnerships (OPHP). This is being addressed by creating an online portal with designated role-specific learning pathways to include a variety of learning modalities and opportunities.
The Learning Pathways project will eventually include recommended learning to meet the needs of all LPHA staff members. The initial effort in this process is directed toward Executive Directors, both new and experienced.
Process
This graphic shows all of the elements of the Executive Director Learning Pathways. The path begins with an introductory conversation with the OPHP Director and Training Team, to provide the background and overview of the process, discuss the systems and tools to be used, and answer any questions.
The Executive Director will receive a link to a Learning Needs Survey, which will guide the Training Team in the creation of a personalized learning plan. A Training Team member will have a conversation about the survey results and recommended learning plan with the Executive Director, adapting as needed to ensure the most impactful learning.
The Learning Plan will guide the participant through the recommended trainings in CO TRAIN, accompanied by support materials for using this learning management system (LMS).
This CO TRAIN user guide will answer any additional questions you may have about how to set up and access your account, how to engage with your training plan, and how to register and complete training.
The Training Team is available for ongoing support with any issues you may encounter as you make your way through the Learning Pathway.
How Will This Help You in Your Work?
Extensive research and planning has been done to be sure the Learning Pathways content will offer relevant and role-specific learning opportunities for busy public health Executive Directors. The work included identifying, collecting, and vetting online learning opportunities, assessing LMS feasibility, interviewing subject matter experts (including current executive directors and CDPHE program staff), identifying learning needs from these experts, and incorporating Executive Director Learning Pathways Advisory Group feedback, as this group assessed the tools and learning opportunities we shared with them.
All of this, along with feedback from the Pilot Program and ongoing monitoring of those who are using these materials, are meant to provide you with the solid preparation and support you need to be successful in your role.
New content coming in 2023.
Welcome to CO TRAIN, where you will access the training component of your learning pathway.
CO TRAIN is a free source of information and training for learners and course providers, administered by the Public Health Foundation. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) became a TRAIN Affiliate to provide an online learning management system (LMS) for public health professionals in Colorado.
Our goal is to provide a user friendly resource that presents public health trainings, information, and resources to develop and sustain a competent and qualified public health workforce, and to share these resources with Colorado’s public health community.
The training component of your learning pathways plan will be housed on COTRAIN. The following materials are available to help you navigate CO TRAIN, view and complete the online portion of your training plan.
This CO TRAIN user guide will answer any additional questions you may have about how to set up and access your account, how to engage with your training plan, and how to register and complete training.

Introduction to the Colorado Health Information Dataset (CoHID), orients users to the Colorado Health Information Dataset, also known as CoHID. CoHID is a central website organized by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment where you can find data from various data sources and programs. This brief training highlights a few of the many important data dashboards that are available through CoHID.
Introduction to Colorado Health Indicators Dashboard takes a deeper dive into the Colorado Health Indicators dashboard, which is one of many dashboards housed on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Colorado Health Information Dataset (CoHID) webpage. The Colorado Health Indicators Dashboard was created to support local public health agencies in developing their community health assessments and public health improvement plans.
Both of these videos can be found on OPHP's new YouTube Training Video playlist.
The Colorado Public Health Nursing Orientation Toolkit is a handbook of recommendations and resources for use by nurses and public health administrators. This handbook supports nurses and administrators in developing a comprehensive orientation specific to the setting/agency in which the nurse works. The Toolkit is prepared in a “pick list” format where the nurse and employer can together determine the depth and breadth of the orientation needed. Resources under each major topic of orientation are listed along with live links to training, training material, readings, resources, and more that nurses and public health administrators can use to design their own custom orientation. This guide was developed as a 2022 Colorado Public Health Association Nursing Section project.
